WATERLOO REGION — Janice Moore, a member of the now-defunct citizens’ budget task force, will run for a Ward 2 seat in Waterloo.

Current Councillor Karen Scian is not seeking reelection.

“I’ve seen firsthand what great results can be achieved when we get residents, politicians and City Hall staff working hard and respectfully together,” she said in a press release. “I’ve done it in my professional life and my life as a volunteer.

“Now it’s time for me to step up and continue that collaboration on city council.”

The citizens’ budget task force was convened in Waterloo in 2011. The group pored through city finances and made several recommendations to council on everything from reviewing a city system that guides tax increases to the city’s infrastructure deficit.

Moore worked for the firm Moore, McDermott and Partners as a chartered accountant for more than 25 years and continues to work as a tax specialist during tax season.

She has been involved on Waterloo committees including the recreation advisory committee, cash grants review committee and budget task force.

Moore’s son, CJ, is a nationally-recognized diver, which led to Moore to becoming a director on the board of the K-W Diving Club and its current president. In the past decade she has also served on the board of Dive Ontario.

In 2013 she took on the job of chair for the Sport Organization Committee for Diving for the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto.
